La Foce Wedding: The Ultimate Guide

La foce wedding

Getting married at La Foce, in the heart of Tuscany, is a dream come true for many couples. As a destination wedding photographer in Italy, I’ve had the opportunity to work at La Foce many times, and I can confidently say it’s one of the most beautiful and photogenic locations in the region.

In this guide, I’ll share everything you need to know to plan your La Foce wedding—from the best time of year to marry, to photo tips, logistics, and why this magical place continues to captivate couples from all over the world.

Where is La Foce?

La Foce is located in the heart of Val d’Orcia, one of the most stunning and iconic areas of Tuscany. If you close your eyes and imagine the classic Tuscan landscape—rolling hills, cypress-lined roads, warm golden light—you’re probably picturing Val d’Orcia.

Nearby towns like Montepulciano, known for its world-class wine, and the romantic hilltop village of Pienza, are just a short drive away. This location makes La Foce ideal for couples looking to offer their guests an authentic, unforgettable Tuscan experience.

Why Get Married at La Foce?

La Foce is, in my opinion, one of the most iconic wedding venues in Tuscany. Its perfectly manicured Italian gardens, stunning views over the countryside, and elegant architecture create a setting that feels straight out of a movie.

The strategic location also makes it a great base to explore Tuscany. If you and your guests are food and wine lovers, you’ll be spoiled for choice with excellent restaurants and some of Italy’s top wineries close by.

The atmosphere is peaceful, luxurious, and rich in history—ideal for couples looking for a romantic destination wedding with a timeless feel.

A Brief History of La Foce

La Foce is more than a wedding venue; it’s a place filled with history and charm. The estate was restored in the 1920s by Iris and Antonio Origo, a couple deeply involved in cultural and social life during the early 20th century.

The gardens were designed by English architect Cecil Pinsent and are now considered one of the finest examples of formal Italian garden design. With terraced levels, boxwood hedges, lemon trees, and fountains, it’s easy to see why La Foce has become a dream setting for weddings and events.

When to Get Married at La Foce

The best months to get married at La Foce are May, June, July, and September. The weather is generally warm and pleasant, and the light during these months is perfect for photography.

August is usually very hot in Italy, though the last couple of weeks might be manageable if you prefer a summer wedding. October is a hidden gem—in recent years, couples who chose this month enjoyed mild weather and sunshine. Just keep in mind that days get shorter, so I wouldn’t recommend going beyond mid-October.

From a photographer’s perspective, I suggest scheduling your ceremony between 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm from May to September. In October, aim for an hour earlier to make the most of the golden light.

Spaces and Guest Capacity

La Foce offers generous spaces, perfect for hosting weddings with a good number of guests. Based on my experience, the ideal group size ranges from 80 to 120 people.

Villa Origo, the main villa, can accommodate up to 24 guests with 9 double rooms with ensuite bathrooms and 3 twin rooms, also with private bathrooms. The villa includes beautiful common areas and a swimming pool in front of the lemon house (Limonaia), which is perfect for a relaxed pool party the day after the wedding.

Additional guest accommodations are available in nearby buildings that are part of the estate.

Best Photo Spots at La Foce

La Foce is one of my favorite wedding venues in Tuscany, and every corner seems made for photos. Here are the must-shoot spots:

  • The formal Italian Garden

Tips from a Wedding Photographer

If you’re planning a wedding at La Foce, here are a few of my personal tips:

  • Timeline is key. Make sure you allow enough time between ceremony and dinner to do your couple photos in a relaxed, unhurried way.
  • Golden hour magic. Plan your portraits during golden hour (roughly an hour before sunset).
  • Prep the details. La Foce has an editorial feel, so if you love fashion-inspired wedding imagery, prepare your accessories and styling touches in advance—they’ll elevate your gallery.
  • Explore the property. Do a walkthrough with your planner and photographer to choose your ceremony and dinner layout according to the best light.

Sample 3-Day Wedding Itinerary

Want to make your La Foce wedding a full Tuscan experience? Here’s a sample itinerary:

  • Day 1: Welcome dinner in nearby Montepulciano or Pienza, take this occasion to have your couple portraits in the town with a different outfit
  • Day 2: Wedding day at La Foce with garden ceremony and terrace dinner
  • Day 3: Pool party or farewell brunch at the Limonaia

This format gives your guests time to relax and explore, and you’ll enjoy more time with the people you love.

Nearby Towns to Explore

Your guests will love exploring the area around La Foce. Don’t miss:

  • Montepulciano – world-famous for its wine and medieval charm
  • Pienza – a romantic gem with beautiful views and local pecorino cheese
  • Bagno Vignoni – a small spa town with thermal springs and unique architecture

These towns are all within a 30-minute drive and make perfect half-day trips.

Do You Need a Wedding Planner for La Foce?

In short: yes, it’s highly recommended. La Foce is a vast and historic estate, and working with a wedding planner who knows the property well can make a huge difference.

A local planner can help you manage logistics, communicate with trusted vendors, and make the most of what the venue has to offer. I’ve worked with several professionals who specialize in Tuscany weddings and would be happy to connect you.

Here’s a quick checklist to help you get started:

  • Reserve La Foce 12–18 months in advance
  • Hire a local wedding planner
  • Schedule a venue visit if possible
  • Book guest accommodations early
  • Discuss the timeline with your photographer and planner

How Much Does a La Foce Wedding Cost?

The cost of a wedding at La Foce depends on which parts of the estate you book. On average, a 3-night stay at the main villa with access to the gardens starts around €40,000.

Catering is always managed by external vendors, so pricing will vary based on your chosen company and menu style. Be sure to budget separately for planner, photographer, floral design, music, rentals, and accommodation for guests.

Things You’ll Love About La Foce

  • The cinematic atmosphere
  • The scents of the garden in spring and summer
  • The breathtaking views over the Val d’Orcia

Italianate sapor.

As a fashion portraitist I've treaded between reality and fantasy, identity and inclusivity, time, space, culture and (be)longing. These all influenced how I photograph real people, urging me to create images that offer -in their simplicity- a connective tissue and counterpoint to my subjects. I tell stories of how chance encounters between strangers come to form families, and capture how their shared space, experiences, values and time bring about the little magic the future needs. It's all very Italian, and so universal at the same time.
